The clatter of Katie Peterss shopping cart drowned out any sound from the man behind her.
She didnt see him as he sneaked up. She didnt hear anything as he pulled out his weapon.
But then she felt a sharp pain in her buttock.
Thomas Stemen (Anne Arundel County Police Department/AP)
I knocked whatever was behind me, she said in an interview with WTTG, and turned around to see her attacker. She started yelling at him and asked whether he had burned her with a cigarette.
Ya, it felt like a bee sting, didnt it? the man responded.
But it wasnt a cigarette. Thomas Stemen had stuck her with a syringe and injected her with semen.
Last week, Stemen, 53, was sentenced in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court to 10 years in prison for the February 2020 assault at a grocery store in Churchton, Md. He was also convicted of second-degree assault for making contact with, but not hurting, a 17-year-old girl in the same supermarket and sentenced to five years of probation for that.
