4. Kentucky does have very few prominent progressives

It's like two warring factions of "good ol' boys". It's hard to get behind either one.

I think it's very possible that Judd would have lost because she was too liberal for KY, but on the other hand, she may have surprised everyone by inspiring people to get out and vote. I think there's a real hunger to see someone run on their principles and not on the 'say whatever you think people want to hear' platform. I don't think she's the only one who could win. But Dems will have to stop sniping at each other and pick a candidate to get behind.
