lots of GOP competition and poor running mate choice
Sen. Bill Brady’s selection of Maria Rodriguez brings a proven conservative with suburban ties, and some Executive experience as a Mayor, to balance Brady’s legislative background as a State Senator.

Sen. Kirk Dillard’s pick of State Rep. Jil Tracy provides geographic balance as she hails from downstate Quincy, and she is a well-regarded legislator with support of many conservative and moderate Republicans. As well, Tracy has a business background in a large family business that employs many Illinoisans.

Treasurer Dan Rutherford chose Steve Kim who has the experience of having run statewide before and he and Rutherford have a great deal of synergy together as long time allies. Rutherford trusts him to be in charge of implementing his statewide jobs creation program.

Bruce Rauner, after being turned down by several more accomplished suburban women, settled on little known first-term Wheaton Councilwoman Evelyn Pacino Sanguinetti. After a brief campaign rollout augmented by a couple of slick videos (one English. one Spanish) this web site broke the hugely damaging story about Sanguinetti’s multi-count lawsuit against her own community and other governmental bodies over her slip and fall on a walk to the train station. Once that information became public it was too late for Rauner to dump her from the ticket and admit he made the wrong choice. But she has become so toxic that he has had to find a seat on the backbench for her to avoid more public scrutiny of his poor judgment.

Here is the story about “Slip and Sue:” http://norauner.com/2013/10/22/sanguinetti-slip-and-sue-story-going-viral/
