When the energy sector is doing well it creates a lot of blue collar work. I live in a rural area and I think that about 30% of the jobs I see in the newspaper are for commercial truck drivers and another 10% for local delivery drivers. Most of the jobs do not require any type of degree and pay pretty well.

The other factor is that the birth rate in Texas probably higher than elsewhere. It does appear that the teen pregnancy rate is declining which is a blessing.
