Memory Lane. Highway, actually. [View all]

My stepsister came by and gave me a box of Dad's stuff spirited out of his old house. (the property is tied up in court as my stepbrother tries to contest my stepmother's will - he wants Everything. Ain't happening!)
The box was full of memories.
The flag that draped Dad's casket, and shells from the gun salute.
Pictures, some I hadn't seen in years, a record of his life.
His honorable discharge papers.
Medals and citations.
An old ID bracelet with a pic of Mom inside.
One of his dog tags.
Two pics of his best friend from childhood. He and Wimpy joined the service together. Dad became a Medic and Wimpy a loadmaster, and Wimpy died when his cargo plane went down over northern Canada on its way to supply a DEW line radar base.
A copy of a letter from one of Dad's COs, asserting that Dad was the best Medic she'd ever worked with.
I spent all Sunday with the box and its contents. As I touched each object, picture, and paper, the memories flooded in. I smiled, cried, and even laughed out loud a couple of times.
All in all, a wonderful day!
