5. Distinguishing between North American people and US Foreign policy

When I worked in South America in the last century, the local folks I met there liked North Americans (always said 'norteamericanos' as they are Americans, too) and the values set forth in the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Declaration of Independence. The "Yankee go home" was a direct result of our foreign policies which belied our stated values.
