- Rare earth minerals/metals are connected to three things: production capacity, demand from specific industries, and environmental impact. These three factors come together in a specific area of China due to 40 years of investment and development.
I will not elaborate further but there is a reason most of China’s rare earth minerals are produced in Zhejiang and Jiangsu. These two areas have the needed capacities to process, absorb and ship the products created from rare earth minerals.
Greenland has nothing comparable to what Zhejiang and Jiangsu has in production capacity or demand from specific industries. Most Greenlandic people I have met are also not very keen on accepting the environmental impact from extracting these minerals.
