(114,348 posts)After Hoover was out, they were a minority party for a long time, during which they did function as brakes on some projects which did overspend for little return. That was great. Of course, they also pushed through the stupid balanced budget law that ushered in the Great Recession of 1937, something that wasn't over until the country entered WWII. However, they were always at their best as a minority party.
Getting power just made them believe their own PR and double down on their backwards dogma. They are an obvious threat to this country now, with their billionaire centric policies and antipathy to people who live here full time.
Republicans who want their rotten party and poisonous agenda to survive are realizing they need to jump ship.
