2. Yep, it's pretty bleak,

and our Republican legislature seems hellbent on not doing anything about it at all since it's an election year. We are in the crazy position right now of giving the oil companies more in credits and incentives to produce (almost $900 million a year) than we're getting back in revenue. In other words, we'd be better off telling them to take a hike and desert the North Slope rather than have them continuing to operate here. It's pretty crazy. Any good ideas that the few Democrats in the legislature have had don't even make it to the floor.
