MONTGOMERY, Ala. — State Rep. Alvin Holmes says changing the name of the Rosa Parks Avenue Branch Library in honor of the city's first black librarian at a public library would send the wrong message to the world.

The Montgomery Democrat says if the city council agrees Tuesday to change the name to the Bertha Pleasant Williams Branch Library, he will block all city and county legislation.

The Montgomery Advertiser reports (http://on.mgmadv.com/PWAZlR ) the city-county library board of directors in May unanimously voted to change the name of the library to honor Williams, who was a public librarian in Montgomery for 21 years. The county commission unanimously approved the change last week.
