In reply to the discussion: Holy SHit folks - did you see the March job numbers - 98,000 [View all]Hortensis
(58,785 posts)56. AND 56K of those were confined to "professional and
business services." I.e., they are professional, technical, management, administrative jobs AND are in service, not manufacturing, sectors.
The various rather dramatic market responses to the hard-core, corporation-friendly Republican sweep in this election cannot be predominantly ascribed, as in more normal transitions, to the previous administration. Business saw last fall's election as promising extensive deregulation, including non-enforcement and elimination of labor and environmental protection laws, and restructuring of the tax code to their advantage. And, generally speaking, business plans have been altered accordingly.
NY Times:
I think the headline number was clearly impacted by the weather, said Michelle Meyer, head of United States economics at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. But at some point she said, rosy economic expectations are likely to catch up with a more sober reality.
Sentiment surveys moved sharply higher after the election on expectations of pro-business policies and tax reform, she added. So far, that hasnt happened, and the big question is whether confidence can remain as strong. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/07/business/economy/job-creation-unemployment-trump.html?_r=0
