3. Whether one thinks the creation of the state of Israel was a mistake, or not...

the fact remains that it exists now, and has a large native-born Jewish population. It's unreasonable to expect that that population should self-deport to elsewhere. The Israel/Palestine situation is only going to be resolved by either a separate Palestinian state or a one-state solution in which Palestinians get full Israeli citizenship and civic rights in exchange for abandoning claims to the occupied territories. And the majority of Jews are not Israelis; more Jews live outside Israel than in it, and it's no more fair to blame the actions of the Israeli government on "the Jews" than it is to blame the actions of Al Qaeda or ISIS on "the Muslims".
