I attend a weekly vigil at our local SSA office. We have been doing so since April, with the original Hands Off Social Security protest.
We have signs showing our support for the SSA staff. We have signs alerting folks to the destruction at SSA perpetrated by DOGE. We have signs alerting people to the misuse of our data, and violations of the Privacy Act of 1974. We have signs that explain how raising "the cap" can protect the financial solvency of Social Security.
I am encouraging others to start a SSA visibility vigil at their local office. Let the public know what is going on. Show support for the local offices and their staffers. Push back against further damage to the services at Social Security.
It is easy. Create an event on Indivisible/mobilize.us. You don't need a lot of people. It is for visibility and awareness. Pick a time that coincides with your presence being there at 4 pm, when the office closes and the employees leave...so they see your support. We are only there for about an hour or less, right now...as it is cold where I live.
People wave, and say thank you. People stop and talk to us on the street. We bring extra signs and people sometimes join us.
