Rand Paul is an active, licensed physician, but he is not certified by the nationally recognized American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). Instead, he is certified by a rival organization, the National Board of Ophthalmology (NBO), which he founded himself.

The recognized organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists (eye physicians and surgeons) in the United States is the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). There is no official "National Board of Ophthalmology" that is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)

We can all be anything we say we are, dammit!
