8. Colleges that have mostly women are viewed by many young (American) men as 'easy', or less competitive.

Historically, that attitude was pervasive/enforced by the inability of women-oriented institutions to compete for hires and funding with male-dominated institutions. A classic vicious circle. Top tech schools are particularly known to have gender-unbalanced student bodies -- MIT celebrated (sort of) when their incoming class first had ~1/3 female students !

Young men only interested in a "party school" might very well have no such objection, but they might find the women are not the sort they are looking for -- nrrd grrls, rather than the more desirable bimbettes.

All in all, it largely comes down to a competition between stereotypes; some people choose one, some choose another.
