Confirms the negative impression I had of Si Valley. My last workplace in the US was like that.

I was in an academic lab where I genuinely respected my mentor/colleagues. I was even fond of them. From there I went to this hellish city and school where people only seemed normal when they were unhappy.

Your post and that place were reminiscent of this:

(Laxmi sounds incredibly annoying. I like Carol).

I think hatred is the cure. You can’t love everyone..unless you are in a cult. It was mainly the influence of predatory parasites like Google. It had that vibe of libertarian nihilists using pushy religious and Pronatalist idiots to force their cult. It was an attempt to legitimize privacy violations and punish anyone who rejects what is being suggested in horror - childfree women are crazy, resistance is futile, the whole shebang. It was regressive and nauseating.

It was years before I could shake off the cult like influence. This month I am finally luxuriating in the joys of non-fascistic hatred -hatred of pushy religious people, pushy Pronatalists and other cultists..

Can’t have a world without hate and anger. It’s how you choose to use them that distinguishes the Trumpers or Si Valley cultists from anyone sane.

The counselor there was pretty much the only genuinely nice human around (aside from a decent shrink and therapist with no ties to the shithole institution I was at. They were also not creepy like the hivemind in the rest of the city).

The rest were pushy conniving cultists whom you never really met or spoke to, their creepy and stupid sycophants or other irate people one mostly disliked (as merely being a hater is not cohesion). My boss was not a bad person but he seemed like a zealot for this type of thing being worth what you lose. And the rest of the lab and adjoining labs etc largely just needed kicks in the seat of their pants..annoying little douches. I enjoy hating them.

The last place I stayed at was decent, but I never cross boundaries with strangers willingly once I see I am in a cult.

I briefly made one friend, but predictably two haters are bound to fall out fast in a hell like that.

Oh well..
