9. My very first college English assignment was to read this and submit an abstract summarizing it in 4-6 sentences.

With a cover sheet. I failed big time. I never knew I could be yelled at in red ink. In big letters and red ink, "your inability to comprehend the subject will not cut it in this class, revise and resubmit". Wow! I was 38 when I started college. ended up with a B in the class.
That was the class that turn up my critical thinking big time and has carried with me.
