(13,205 posts)66. the 'electoral college' has been done to death here on DU
EVERYONE (including this poster) knows all about the system backwards and forwards. It is the SAME system that we have operated under since it was instituted in 1787. And incidentally the times when the college has usurped the result of the popular vote (insofar as it was known at the time. and of course included little caveats such as land ownership, white skin tone, and testicles during a good portion thereof) still continued to be relatively few - despite the recent hue and cry. (something like 4 times? at least of half of those in the 19th century. and a couple in which Congress did more in the way of disenfranchising the vote than the actual electoral college.)
If the democracy we in fact have isn't suitable to your needs today - then by all means go out and get yourself a better one! And of course - good luck with that! In the meantime, time and efforts would be better spent trying to devise ways to win with the system currently in place - surprisingly (shockingly) something quite similar to what both the Harris and Trump campaigns attempted to do in this past election.
One succeeded. One failed.

My hope is that the current administration and various agencies are taking lots of steps behind the scenes...

Unfortunately, more voters chose trump. Probably ignorant, bigots, plan to be part of trump's henchmen, etc.

A majority is 51%. Or at least 50% +1. Trump didn't get that many votes. He got less of a majority

Magic for the most part. A few want to terminate the Constitution before they can and start the civil war

Fair enough but when push comes to shove I see little support for the notion.

We need a strong voice of leadership from someone who is not currently in office.
