(59,966 posts)The fact is that enough of the Gaetz stuff is already known by too many people. Namely the entire ethics committee and other Republicans in the House who have in the past accused him. You could say this is all hearsay, but we know there is a report and Gaetz could demand its release if it exonerated him.
As to publicly leaking the foibles of Republican senators it is a pretty weak threat because the leadership of her own party will stop her.
I wonder if someone in Trump's orbit did this to get rid of him. Remember he was a key player in the various difficulties in getting a speaker. Now that he has resigned, the Schumer led Senate is clearly not working on setting up confirmation hearing. Meanwhile it is Florida's interest to start the process to fill the empty seat. It may be that he will miss the opportunity to run if he is still Trump's nominee when deadlines pass.
Think about it. Trump replaces him with someone like Jeffery Clark. FL will elect a Republican from that superred district. Speaker Johnson has the same number of Republicans and potentially one less troublemaker
