So is a 2025 base trim Chevy Trax.
So, while, yes, you can spend a lot more, there are still perfectly serviceable cars for less than half that average price.
The market price is skewed by the overpriced pickup models.
Just buy a smaller car.
Disclaimer: I own both a KIA Soul and a Chevy Trax. 2020 and 2021, respectively. They cost about the same then.

there are lots of new cards in the low $20k range still. Paying $50k is definetly a choice
