It is not as sadistic as you suggest. It is passive, as in laughing at or ridiculing someone else's misfortune. Example: the glee here on DU over the falling prices of the Truth Social stock.
Malignant narcissism is active, not passive. It is doing deliberately sadistic things to hurt people and enjoying every moment of doing it, like taking children from their migrant parents and putting people in cages.
