(5,003 posts)30. Slate online has a really good article on Harris' Foreign Policy experience in Biden's Administation.
She wasn't just buying cookware in France, as the press incinuated. She saved a relationship with French leaders who were pissed we sold a nuclear submarine to Australia, when France was hoping to make that sale.
A few months earlier, U.S.French relations were on the verge of rupturing because the Biden administration sold a nuclear-powered submarine to Australia, thus preempting a submarine deal that Australia had signed with France. Harris proposed a face-to-face meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, made the trip, and smoothed over the tensions. (The press coverage of the trip focused more on her spending $500 on cookware at E. Dehillerin, a leading kitchen-supply store.)

She sat in on most PDBs and, like Biden, asked questions to get more info on some items. Joe Biden is not just a great president, he is probably one of the best foreign policy teachers around. He involved her so she would learn from the master, and have a mastery of all current security and foreign relation issues.
She's more than ready. Joe made sure of that. Now, he will get on with his work in his term, and she's in it to win it!

The media would not have focused on the cookware if it had been any previous VP.

I didn't know a thing about Walz before he was mentioned as a possible running mate.
