We camped at the campground there in spring for many years and rode bikes all around the island. Great place. Always saw alligators in the ponds on south side of island (not near the campground.) and all kinds of wonderful birds in the wetlands area near the campground and fishing pier. We used to camp for several idyllic weeks there in late winter/early spring until ticks and humidity set in by early April.
