Used to go once a year when we lived in Marietta Ga. It was our dogs vacation. There was a hotel right on the beach that was dog friendly. Not fancy but right on the beach! We could walk the beach in both directions and it was very diverse. The trees were amazing.

Edit to add. We have visited all that you mentioned in your post except the outer banks. We regret not doing so. All those places are beautiful. Spent 10 years in the south and took advantage of seeing as much of it as we could.
