2. It does seem rather bizarre.

My first thought was that the mom just walked off to use the restroom, and then came back and the car was gone. If the daughter uses a wheelchair, it can be a process to unfold the chair and transfer someone into it. If you're just running to take a piss you might have to skip all that.

But we're talking days and days here.
