There are things white people can get away with that Black people can't. This is why white moms formed a human chain to protect Black protestors during the Black Lives Matter protests. A white ally doing this is showing solidarity.

Basically a white person taking the knee is demonstrating that black people aren't the only ones who care about this issue.
