Imprisoned Peter Navarro plans to speak at the Republican National Convention

Disgraced former White House trade adviser Peter Navarro is making plans to speak at the Republican National Convention in July despite serving a prison sentence for contempt of Congress.

While serving four months in prison, Navarro spoke to Semafor about his plans. "Navarro said he hopes to speak at the Republican National Convention if he can make it out in time," Semafor reported, "with his scheduled release date of around July 17 falling in the middle of the gathering. He wants to tout Trump's economic agenda, laid out in a book he has been wrapping up in prison, The New MAGA Deal, which will be released the week of the convention." Navarro suggested his book was a blueprint for the first 100 days of Donald Trump's second term.

" Trump will also quickly seal the border and begin mass deportations," the former adviser told Semafor, "Biden has imported a wave of crime and terrorism along with an uneducated mass that drives down wages of Black, brown, and blue-collar Americans. Blacks and Hispanics, particularly males in the workforce, are flocking to Trump in droves."

Navarro also predicted that Fed Chairman Jay Powell would be ousted and "will be gone in a hundred days one way or the other." He recommended Trump's Former Council of Economic Advisers Chair Kevin Hassett as a "logical replacement." According to Navarro, the tariffs Trump placed on China did not impact inflation. "The imposition of tariffs on Communist China had ZERO impact on inflation. In a general equilibrium economic world, tariffs over time boost growth and real wages; they are not inflationary," he insisted.

The internet is disappearing, study says - Almost 40% of webpages from 2013 no longer exist a decade on, research finds

The internet is disappearing, a new study has suggested, as web pages and online content is lost. The web is often thought of as a place where content lasts forever. But vast swathes of its are being lost as pages are deleted or moved, according to new research.

Of the webpages that existed in 2013, for instance, 38 per cent are now lost. Even newer pages are disappearing: 8 per cent of pages that existed in 2023 are no longer available. Those pages tend to disappear when they are deleted or moved. That happens on otherwise functional websites, the study from the Pew Research Center indicated, rather than happening when whole websites disappear.

The effect means that vast amounts of news and important reference content are disappearing. Some 23 per cent of news pages include at least one broken link, and 21 per cent of government websites, it said – and 54 per cent of Wikipedia pages include a link in their references that no longer exists.

Much the same effect is happening on social media. A fifth of tweets disappear from the site within months of being posted.

My guess is many people have grown tired of having to cope with content that places them outside of their comfort zones. And rather than deal with controversial opinion they've chosen to turn away or suppress. Another step toward totalitarianism.

Trump shares video suggesting his victory will bring 'unified Reich'

Former President Donald Trump's account shared a video on social media Monday that included reference to a "unified Reich" among possible developments if he were to win re-election in November, drawing criticism from the Biden campaign.

Trump's account posted a 30-second video to his Truth Social platform on Monday afternoon which asks "what happens after Donald Trump wins?" and "what's next for America?" The background is made up of hypothetical newspaper front pages with headlines including "BORDER IS CLOSED — 15 MILLION ILLEGAL ALIENS DEPORTED" and "ECONOMY BOOMS."

Twice in the clip, slightly blurred text appears beneath the headlines that reads: "Industrial strength significantly increased ... driven by the creation of a unified Reich." "Reich," meaning realm, kingdom or empire, is often considered to be a reference to the Third Reich regime of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler that emerged in 1930s Germany — and its inclusion in the video was condemned by Democrats.

"America, stop scrolling and pay attention. Donald Trump is not playing games; he is telling America exactly what he intends to do if he regains power: rule as a dictator over a 'unified reich,'" James Singer, spokesman for President Joe Biden's re-election campaign, said in a statement Monday night. "Parroting 'Mein Kampf' while you warn of a bloodbath if you lose is the type of unhinged behavior you get from a guy who knows that democracy continues to reject his extreme vision of chaos, division, and violence," Singer said.

'Emphasis on Cult': Jon Stewart Breaks Down Why Trump is the 'Real Cancel Culture'

Jon Stewart detailed the hypocrisy of conservative media’s condemnation of cancel culture on Monday’s episode of The Daily Show, pointing out that their “boy king” Trump has cancelled numerous opponents who have dared to speak against him.

The late-night host opened his monologue with news of the backlash Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker garnered after delivering a speech to Benedictine College’s 2024 graduate class in which he encouraged women to embrace their roles as wives and homemakers rather than putting their degrees to use. Stewart zeroed in on how conservative media reacted to the criticism, playing clips of right-wing media pundits claiming the left was fueling an attack on free speech.

Stewart noted that conservative media have devoted an entire industry to “complaining about not being able to say the things they say all the time,” adding that “their victimhood is the entire brand.” After rolling footage of Sean Hannity humorously declaring that he was not the type of person to become outraged alongside clips of Hannity promoting stories that would make “your blood boil,” Stewart stated the universal truth: “In our modern social media driven society our interactions are incentivized and monetized for outrage, and it is fucking exhausting for everyone.”

“We are surrounded by and inundated with more speech than has ever existed in the history of communication, and it is all weaponized by professional outrage hunters of all stripes,” he continued. Yet contrary to “conservatives’ victimization complex,” Stewart said there is “no organized canceled culture conspiracy, where even the slightest misstep can 100 percent get someone on the right cancelled.”

After almost a decade of Trump, America is tired. And scared.

It seems hard to believe, but there was a time when we Americans could go days, or even weeks, without hearing about Donald Trump. That ended nearly a decade ago, when Trump decided he wanted to be president. Now, he is a constant presence on the evening news and in the morning newspaper. He ensures it by manufacturing turmoil, threats and constant controversy.

As Politico put it, he is “the ultimate attention seeker,” plastering his name not only on buildings and golf courses but also on the nation’s consciousness. And the news media accommodates him with free coverage, reporting thinly veiled threats of violence, complaints about mistreatment, gag-order violations and power naps in court. Even Trump’s 11-car motorcade to the courthouse gets more press attention than what happens during President Biden’s presidency.

Some of us wistfully remember the relative peace of the “No Drama Obama” presidency. Joe Biden is preternaturally calm compared to Trump, but calm doesn’t get free media attention. Trump’s manipulation of the media raises questions about fundamental fairness in an election year, but it also has a troubling impact on the American people.

Outside the MAGA camp, some Americans say they’re suffering from crisis fatigue. Recent polls have found that voters from both parties anticipate the November election with a mixture of exhaustion and the realization that this is one of the most important elections ever.

Donald Trump Movie 'The Apprentice' Ignites Controversy in Cannes Over Rape Scene

It proved to be the most disturbing scene in a movie chock full of unflattering sequences about Donald Trump. In Ali Abbasi’s “The Apprentice,” Trump (played by Sebastian Stan) violently throws his then-wife Ivana (Maria Bakalova) to the ground and proceeds to have nonconsensual sex with her.

In the controversial scene, Ivana playfully presents a book to her husband about the merits of a female orgasm. But the interaction between the two turns dark quickly, as an uninterested Trump tells his wife that he is no longer attracted to her. They argue, and then Trump throws her to the ground. As he angrily thrusts himself into her, an icy Trump sneers: “Is that your G spot? Did I find it?”

Heading into tonight’s premiere, insiders insisted that the scene, which Variety previously reported on, was consensual but uncomfortable. But reactions within the Palais said otherwise. One woman in her 20s called the scene, which unfolds in the couple’s home after an argument, “gross” and referred to it as “rape” after the credits rolled. Another female attendee agreed, calling it a disturbing sexual assault.

Still, it’s an extraordinary turn of events for a film to depict a former president sexually assaulting his wife. One source familiar with the script permutations told Variety that the scene was even more overt in earlier drafts, while a second insider says the scene’s inclusion was debated for its necessity to the storyline.

"Guilty!" Chants Drown Out Trump's Latest Goon Squad Outside Of The Courthouse

In the absence of particularly substantial protests on Donald Trump’s behalf from actual everyday folks around his ongoing criminal trial in New York City, the merry-go-round of prominent Republicans making the trek to show their support for the ex-president-turned-criminal defendant continued on Monday. And with members of Congress part of the latest guests yet again, an attempt to stump for Trump outside the courthouse went… poorly.

Anti-Trump protesters showed up. One participant in the demonstration aggressively chanted “Guilty!” as the pro-Trump group tried to speak, and the latter ended up largely inaudible. Another shout seemingly lobbed the accusation that the gathered Trumpers were traitors. There was also whistling, a cowbell, and a large banner displayed on a fence behind the group that deemed them “bootlickers.”

Those actually showing up on Monday for Trump’s trial reportedly included GOP Reps. Eric Burlison (Mo.), Andrew Clyde (Ga.), Mary Miller (Ill.), Keith Self (Texas), and various other Trump allies, like former federal official Kash Patel. Patel is visible in footage from the scene outside the courthouse shared by journalist Jacqueline Sweet. He’s trying desperately to talk over the gathered crowd intent on drowning him out, struggling to be heard. It’s unclear who was even there that wanted to hear what they were saying as opposed to the anti-Trump crowd just massively outnumbering any pro-Trump presence.

Earlier visitors to the Trump trial included GOP Sens. Rick Scott (Fla.), J.D. Vance (Ohio), and Tommy Tuberville (Ala.), alongside Speaker of the House Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.). Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) characterized Johnson’s trip as “debasing.” “It’s bad enough that he lacks the self-respect that he feels he needs to go and kiss the ring in such a public and debasing way,” Schiff said. “But also, for him to denigrate the justice system — for him to knowingly make the false claim that this trial was designed to keep Trump off the campaign trail. He knows better than that.”

'It's huge': Experts stunned by photo proving Cohen testimony about Trump phone call

Donald Trump's attorneys are fighting the introduction of a piece of evidence that legal experts believe could be extremely important in proving the charges against the former president.

Prosecutors want to show jurors a photo of Trump with his former bodyguard Keith Schiller at a campaign rally shortly before the 2016 election that legal experts say could prove testimony by Michael Cohen about a phone call he made to the former president about a hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

"Woah, prosecution has a photo that shows on 10/24 Trump WAS INDEED with Schiller just minutes before the call Cohen said he had with both of them!" posted former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann on X. "Which Blanche had sought to refute."

The photo shows Trump and Schiller walking off the stage or an Oct. 24, 2016, campaign rally at 7:57 p.m., five minutes before the 8:02 p.m. phone call in question. "I'm with Andrew on this," said former U.S. attorney Barbara McQuade. "Blanche is arguing the photo isn't relevant, but it's huge. It tends to corroborate Cohen by showing Trump was exactly where he says he was minutes before the call & Schiller could have easily passed Trump the phone."

Trump's Been On Trial A Month & The World Has Not Ended. Trump & Allies Had Issued Dire Warnings About Mass Uprisings ..

Trump and his allies issued dire warnings about mass uprisings if prosecutors dared charge Trump with crimes. As of now, there have been zero. As significant as the events inside a lower Manhattan courtroom this past month have been, with the first criminal trial of a former U.S. president, perhaps more significant is what has been happening on the streets outside: nothing. No rioting. No violence. Not even the hint of civil war.

Despite dire warnings from Donald Trump and some of his allies that prosecutors in New York and elsewhere would trigger mayhem if they dared charge him with a crime, so far at least, his trial has taken place with virtually no protest at all.

Early Monday in the park across from the courthouse, there were no pro-Trump protesters. A single anti-Trump protester walked back and forth holding a sign: “TRUMP 2 TERRIFIED 2 TESTIFY.” “People are now aware that there is a cost for showing up for him,” said Heather Cox Richardson, a historian at Boston College who in recent years has been warning about a Trump-centered autocratic movement. “They’re not willing to put themselves on the line for him.”

In the blocks surrounding the courthouse itself, local business owners seemed unaware that Trump had called for protests on his behalf. “Didn’t know anything about it,” said one jewelry store owner, who asked that his name not be used. Salim Chowdhury, owner of the Kabob Town two blocks up the road, said he has seen plenty of large protests come up Canal Street, from Black Lives Matter to recent ones for Gaza. He has not seen much of anything regarding Trump. “We’re not worried,” he said.
