Trump complains about Epstein files distracting from his agenda as DOJ comes under fire over limited release
(The Independent) President Donald Trump has criticized the release of thousands of documents from cases against Jeffrey Epstein, warning they could ruin the reputation of high-profile figures who were innocently photographed alongside the convicted sex offender and deflect from his administrations accomplishments. Growing pressure from members of Congress to release the long-awaited files is merely an attempt to deflect from the tremendous success of the Republican Party and the Trump administration, and Republican lawmakers who support the disclosures are being used, the president told reporters.
Go to discussionTrump insiders admit panic over rogue MAGA figurehead
(Raw Story) Once a staunch defender of President Donald Trump, Candace Owens has since soured on the president and has become among his most vocal critics, joining the likes of other prominent right-wing figures like Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly who have created a rift in the MAGA movement. That rift was on full display last week during Turning Point USAs annual America Fest conference, where right-wing figures like Ben Shapiro openly attacked Owens, Carlson and Kelly for promoting conspiratorial nonsense. And, while Trump-aligned figures have often tried to dismiss Owens and Carlson as irrelevant and not part of the MAGA movement, behind the scenes, Trump officials are taking the rift seriously.

In response to a question from the BBC about the new role of Jeff Landry, the Republican governor of Louisiana, Trump said the US needed Greenland for "national protection" and that "we have to have it". Landry, he said, would "lead the charge" as special envoy to Greenland, a semi-autonomous part of the Kingdom of Denmark.

(The Hill) U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon on Monday lifted restrictions on the release of former special counsel Jack Smiths findings from his investigation into President Trumps handling of classified records but she gave the president a 60-day window to challenge her order. Cannon did not immediately lift her order barring the Justice Department from sharing the volume of Smiths report reviewing his probe into Trumps alleged record mishandling with four top lawmakers, but she said it would automatically expire on Feb. 24. However, she selected the date in alignment with Trump and his co-defendants request for a minimum 60-day period to seek relief from such an order.

(AP) Lawyers for former CIA Director John Brennan want the Justice Department to be prevented from steering an investigation of him and other former government officials to a favored judge in Florida who dismissed the classified documents case against President Donald Trump. Brennans lawyers say in their letter that they are concerned the Justice Department is engaged in judge-shopping and trying to arrange for the investigation to be transferred to U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, who issued favorable rulings to Trump during the classified documents case and dismissed it last year. They asked Altonaga to exercise her supervisory authority as chief judge to ensure the Justice Department is unable to steer the current Russia-related matter to her.
