1. God I love that song.

The first time I heard it I said “Who the hell is THIS?” Been a fan ever since. Saw the little band that could 3 times in concert.

“..so the airplanes won’t get snagged” 🤔

There’s been much thought and conversation about that line over the years.

3. Isn't it just talking about the hangers they put on power lines?

I thought those are there for purpose of small planes and helicopters to see them, no? Anyways cheers to a fellow REM fan!

4. For years I heard it as "so sad" then I heard s I as "so s'mad" like it's smiling.

5. I thought 'don't get tagged' or 'tapped' but both led me to think it made some sense in context

There's so many of those songs I still have no idea what the words are but I can sing along like I know exactly what they are lol.

I don’t mean poetry in a high faulting way Stipe made poetry words that I heard or had a thought completely dependent on what ever the hell I had on my mind.
