Related: About this forumLet's talk about Rubio and Trump giving the lie away.... - Belle of the Ranch
Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about Rubio and Trump giving it away. They stuck to the predetermined line. Maybe they didn't know it leaked.
Just real quick before we get started, today is Giving Day at California State University, Northridge, and there will be a link below for Project Rebound, which helps formerly incarcerated people navigate college. It's a cause we've helped out for a number of years.
Okay, so in the run-up to any conflict, the US government tends to workshop the best ways to sell the American people on the conflict. There's normally a pretty well thought out media blitz that starts as soon as they settle on one, but sometimes that doesn't happen. On Monday, Secretary of State Rubio was talking to reporters when he said, "It was abundantly clear that if Iran came under attack by anyone, the United States or Israel or anyone, they were going to respond and respond against the United States."
He went on, "We knew that there was going to be an Israeli action. We knew that that would precipitate an attack against American forces. And we knew that if we didn't preemptively go after them before they launched those attacks, we would suffer higher casualties.
For those that watch every episode, that might trigger a little déjà vu. It sounds familiar, right? Almost ridiculously so. The thing is, it'll probably work anyway because most Americans have their own lives to lead and don't actually pay attention to foreign policy until the bombs start dropping. Once they start falling, red team, blue team mentality takes over, and they don't always go back to see the little bits of info that came out beforehand. Here's a clip from February 26th.
(cut to video clip from Belle last month)
So this is what came out in the reporting from somebody familiar with the discussion. "There's thinking in and around the administration that the politics are a lot better if the Israelis go first and alone and the Iranians retaliate against us and give us more reason to take action."
So even though it's been telegraphed well ahead of time, the idea is to try to frame it as a defensive action of the US coming in to help an ally when in reality it's scripted ahead of time. The unspoken part of this is that if Israel was to go first, Iran would respond. In the current dynamics, it would be unlikely for Iran to respond solely against Israel. If US forces were attacked during the response, it would provide the catalyst to get Americans behind Trump's elective war.
Another statement made was, "If we're talking about a regime change scale attack, Iran is very likely to retaliate with everything they've got. We have a lot of assets in the region and every one of those is a potential target and they're not under the Iron Dome. So there's a high likelihood of American casualties and that comes with lots of political risk. A high likelihood of American casualties,
(return to current blog episode)
That was published before the war. The story they're using leaked before the bombs even started falling. And that quote was, "There's thinking in and around the administration that the politics are a lot better if the Israelis go first and alone and the Iranians retaliate against us."
Rubio said, "It was abundantly clear that if Iran came under attack by anyone, the United States or Israel or anyone, they were going to respond and respond against the United States. They're using the chain of events that made the politics a lot better, but with a slight adjustment. That's probably why Trump's announcements keep mentioning the likelihood of increased American casualties. Like the quote from the clip said, the Iranians retaliate against us and give us more reason to take action.
We've now gone from nukes to ICBMs to they were going to attack us to we had to attack them because another country was going to attack them, which of course was the line that leaked before the fighting. This is an elective war. Trump-aligned politicians in DC are trying to distract from their scandals, from their failed policies, and the failing economy and the retaliation against American positions. Well, to them that just means the politics are a lot better.
Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
