Related: About this forumLet's talk about Trump attacking Colorado and research.... - Belle of the Ranch
Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about Trump attacking Colorado and research.
Well, in a story that will hopefully be as close to a literal old man yelling at the clouds headline as we get during this administration, Trump is going after the Colorado-based National Center for Atmospheric Research. This entity, founded in 1960, is responsible for a whole lot of our understanding when it comes to climate and the weather. Upon hearing the news of Trump's planned closure, the president of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, which manages NCAR, put out a statement saying, "NCAR's research is crucial for building American prosperity by protecting lives and property, supporting the economy, and strengthening national security."
Russell Vaught, who is the director of Office of Management and Budget and the person who it seems actually gives Trump a lot of orders, posted on social media, "This facility is one of the largest sources of climate alarmism in the country."
This will definitely be another Chesterton's fence moment for the administration. It has the word climate in it, therefore it's woke. The NCAR has had a hand in everything from making your weather forecast something that looks weeks ahead instead of something that looks days ahead to increasing aviation safety through wind shear warning systems. This will be another closure that harms national security because they didn't find out what the fence is for before they take it down.
Colorado Senators John Hickinlooper and Michael Bennett are trying to stop the move by trying to block the minibus budget. They released a statement saying, "President Trump is attacking Colorado because we refuse to bend to his corrupt administration. His reckless decision to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research will have lasting, devastating impacts across the country. We are holding the Senate's appropriations package to demand full funding for NCAR. As Trump's rampage continues, we will pull every lever available to do what is right for Colorado.
Claiming that Trump is doing this because the state isn't cooperating with the administration would seem like a bit of a stretch of the imagination under normal circumstances. But this is a Trump administration. So before you dismiss that as wild rhetoric, remember that a White House official reportedly said, "Maybe if Colorado had a governor who actually wanted to work with President Trump, his constituents would be better served."
It's also worth remembering that Trump has launched a number of attacks against the governor of Colorado. Earlier this month, Trump posted to his social media that quote, "The sleazebag Governor of Colorado Jared Polis refuses to allow an elderly woman, Tina Peters, who is unfairly convicted of what the Democrats do, cheating on elections, out of jail." He also alleged that the governor is somehow affiliated with a Venezuelan street gang and a bunch of other attacks.
For his part, Governor Jared Polis said, "I would remind the president that I had nothing to do with Tina Peter's crimes, including conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation, nor the subsequent investigation into her crimes and her ultimate conviction. The president should spend less time obsessing over me and more time working to lower costs, especially ahead of the holidays.
This will probably turn into yet another legal battle and yet another moment where American security is harmed because of Trump demanding action on his latest obsession.
Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
