"Iran Is Not Going to Surrender": Johns Hopkins Prof. Says U.S. and Israel Underestimate Iran

The U.S.-Israeli war on Iran is now in its fifth day. Following the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Israel has made it clear that it intends to target any official successors. Observers also warn that Israel could soon deploy its “Dahiya doctrine,” a military strategy it first developed in Lebanon that involves carpet-bombing densely populated residential areas. Despite U.S. hopes for a short engagement, however, Iran appears to be settling in for a “war of attrition” against “the biggest military superpower in world history, and the only nuclear-armed state in the Middle East,” says scholar Narges Bajoghli. “This could turn into a regional war of a scale that will make the past 25 years of forever wars in the Middle East seem like a walk in the park.”

1. Why would we expect them too, if we wouldn't?

Historically, bombing campaigns have always stiffened resolve. Who knows for sure as Trump is stupid and ignorant, but I expect he won’t send ground troops and you can’t control a country from the air.

"Why would we expect them too, if we wouldn't?"

I also think that's why oligarch Musk; is so fearful of empathy, or disconnected from humanity.

It's because they're afraid of the people of the world actually uniting over superficial bull shit, so they have to keep divisions front and center.

*rump and Netanyahu excel at this.

ANYTHING about Iran since 1953 when they installed the Shah and quite obviously since very few in this country studies any world or ancient history, they knew even less about the history of Persia.

Iran's people are educated--highly so and have been so even throughout the Islamic Revolution/Republic and even more so under the Shah (one of the good things I can say that he did). To assume they are not simply because of a theocratic Islamic takeover is to show the same kind of ignorance that precipitated that takeover. The US loved their "Shah" creation and his highly corporatist/capitalist-favorable policies. Under the Shah, a mostly secular and highly educated populace and middle class thrived. But, so too did his horrifically ruthless, and violent brutality to sustain his firm hold aided by his secret police, the SAVAK. With the Islamic Revolution, this brutality result in the people being susceptible to trading one strong man to an entire theocracy full of them (perhaps a word to the wise to the West).

These are people with a proud ancient history of civilization that the world has largely forgotten. They certainly have sufficient history to know how to fight back against the West when circumstances warrant. These are not poorly educated or ignorant people from one of Trump's perceived and self-described poor "shit-hole" countries. Iran does not need the US. But the US just might soon find out they need at least a peaceful. yet passive aggressive relationship with Iran. While a significant majority of Iranians would likely love to rid themselves of this horrid Ayatollah-driven theocracy, if the US continues to destroy their country and ignore the needs of its citizens, there may well be a move to side with the "enemy they know" against the West. We have certainly seen that in other imperialistic wars the US has involved itself in. Every single one in recent history...

Of course the Shah was even more brutal to the Iranian people with his torture prisons and executions of political opponents.

I think the plan is to keep killing from the top down while depleting their munitions. Eventually there’s too few to control Tehran and coordinate substantial and sustained military action. No idea what comes after that.

I don't know much about them but I really like their news. Seems like the way news presentations and reporting should be.

THAT is the Dohiya Doctrine. Like Lebanon. Like Gaza.

Netanyahu just SAID he wants to implement the Doctrine in Iran?

Why is this only being reported here? Where is the MSM? Where is the outrage? This is America's War now. No more excuses as with Gaza.
