(12,458 posts)Just on the lying issue alone
.he does it with a straight face, a smile. He lies in front of children, his family, the military, his cabinet. He lies on television, on podcasts, on the phone. He lies in a church, at the Pentagon, while standing at any podium, sitting in a golf cart. He lies here and overseas
..on Air Force One. He lies surrounded by American flags. He lies to his supporters. He lies about his past, the present, the future. He lies about his health, his academic record, his bankruptcies. He lied about bone spurs and then yesterday joked about awarding himself a medal because he flew to Iraq once.
How this teeny, tiny, speck of a despicable, soulless man made it to the Oval Office nearly wrecks my head.

(252,966 posts)I've lived through several presidents, though those who were POTUS when I was a kid I didn't pay a lot of attention to, though I knew who they were and I trusted them. That's the way people used to be. I remember when Barry Goldwater was on with Jay Leno and Leno attempted to start something so he asked Mr. Goldwater what he thought of the current president - Democratic President Bill Clinton. But Goldwater expressed what people used to feel - he said that President Clinton was his president, so that was that.
But it's sure different now. It's totally beyond me how anyone at all could possibly look up to or respect our current president. He's a liar and a convicted criminal (so how can that happen?!) and is in it for the money and the power, the American people be damned.
Not to mention, he has no experience, doesn't know how this presidenting thing is supposed to work - working to support our allies, respecting those who have come here for a better life, as immigrants have for a few centuries. Every single one of us wouldn't be here if not for immigrants. We're a true melting pot, which is one of our strengths.
So having grown up feeling as Barry Goldwater did, unless I'm watching the news or on DU, I can believe it's just a really bad dream. And that's the only way I can deal with it or I can get really scared. And it seems to get worse every day, today the first thing I heard when I turned on the news was that his next step in his horror show is attacking Iran. I remember the Iran-Iraq war and remember that Iran is much larger and more populated so they would have crushed Iraq if not for Reagan. And I really want to either wake up to the country I know or hear that our first presidential felon is finally in jail.
