(4,819 posts)I suppose if people equivocate Clinton to Trump as the representatives of Dems and Repugs within the Epstein sphere, you can say Bill should speak to it. (Although at the time of the Trump/Epstein connection, Trump was claiming himself a Dem). But Bill's likely claims of ignorance and innocence vis a vis Epstein's dark side will likely fall as flat as many others. For most people, it will likely make no nevermind and certainly so to the loyalist MAGA base who probably secretly, or not so secretly, envy Trump's naughty boy ways in all things.

(2,162 posts)Kaine correctly spends most of his Epstein remarks condeming Trump and his administration for hiding the Epstein files. His Clinton comment was essentially began a pivot back to Trump and the DOJ.
I think Kaine is wrong about not persuing contempt charges for the minimal release and overly redacted files. He and other Democrats should at east be loudly threatening contempt both to put the fear of God into administration officials and to simply make tough sounding headlines. Saying there are other avenueswhich we have seen not working in the pastis lame, old school Democratic comity speech that doesnt help.

(770 posts)What would happen is if Bill Clinton did this then he would be the only guy talking and he would be the face of the scandal. Tim kaines suggestion is stupid.

On edit: Watching the video now (which I should have done before I posted) I can see that the headline is very misleading. Kaine did not throw Clinton under the bus, in my opinion. My bad.
Clinton did "address" the issue.
The White House hasnt been hiding these files for months only to dump them late on a Friday to protect Bill Clinton. This is about shielding themselves from what comes next, or from what theyll try and hide forever. So they can release as many grainy 20-plus-year-old photos as they want, but this isnt about Bill Clinton. Never has, never will be.
"There are two types of people here. The first group knew nothing and cut Epstein off before his crimes came to light. The second group continued relationships with him after. Were in the first. No amount of stalling by people in the second group will change that. Everyone, especially MAGA, expects answers, not scapegoats."
