Matthew Desmond: American social mobility used to be the rule- today it's a coin flip - Velshi - MSNBC

Senator Bernie Sanders' "Fight Oligarchy" tour is drawing record-breaking crowds and giving voice to the growing anger over an economy many feel is rigged against them. Americans are paying more for the basic costs of living even as corporations rake in excess profits. “Wages for too many have stagnated, housing and healthcare costs have skyrocketed—the American dream is fading for far too many of us,” says sociologist and Pulitzer Prize-winner Matthew Desmond.

With Trump's rise to power, the facade of faux economic populism has been replaced by unabashed corporate greed. “It used to be the case that social mobility was the rule in America—today it’s basically a coin flip.” - Aired on 03/23/2025.

collaborate with to further his goals of energizing the working class (and I would add the working poor), and Matthew Desmond is one of my two suggestions. The other is Reverend Dr. William Barber. They know where the missing voters are and why they don't vote and what can motivate them to care.
