(630 posts)The kind of people who don't want you here, fought a murderous war to avoid being Americans. Try not to mistake them for us.

(230,685 posts)I can't help wondering if they'll stay home this year. I can hardly blame them. *sigh*

I think they may cut back on that travel now.

(230,685 posts)I see license plates from every state and many from Ontario and Quebec. When I was in school I worked summers at the popular amusement park and saw visitors from numerous other countries, too. I know that during Covid the Canadian visitors stopped but they were back during the summer, though I'm betting that this summer they won't make the trip. Growing up I went to a summer camp in Vermont. We got a lot of Canadian campers and they fit right in and I'm still friends with a former counselor from Quebec and his terrific wife - who once gave me quite a lecture on the dangers of TFG.

(66,653 posts)Canada is such a beautiful country and Quebec is amazing.
No need to go into the US.
Yes I understand enough French to hear the negative comments about Trump in Quebec.

(230,685 posts)And my former counselor and his wife are bilingual. Though given our proximity to Canada, in school they started teaching us French in 7th grade.

(66,653 posts)Yes I started taking French lessons in school starting in 5th grade.
And all the way through school into college. So many years of French.
You'd think I could speak it, but not really.
I can read it better than I can speak it.
I do quite a bit of genealogy and can translate the old French documents from Quebec.
That is about it.
Yes if I lived in Canada, I would never venture to the US.
No need to do so.
Actually I would park myself in old Quebec City and never budge.
And be happy as a clam.
