'Sycophant Olympics': Trump prioritizes pliancy over competence in assembling new Cabinet - Alex Wagner - MSNBC

Donald Trump's early choices of who he wants to serve in his Cabinet might be individually surprising, but taken together, the common trait that seems to unite them is their devotion to Trump and his vision. Conservative attorney George Conway discusses with Alex Wagner. - Aired on 11/12/2024.

"Right", says Trump, "We've got this urgent national problem to deal with. Who here knows what to do?"

Heads shake slowly, eyes look furtively around the room for someone to speak up and make sense.

Trump: "Well, you are a useless lot! Why are you here anyway?"

Collective response: "You invited us, you picked us! But we didn't realise we had to do actual serious work!"

A big tirade and ketchup splattering on the meeting room walls ensues.

According to Mary Trump's book, that's what happened when he worked in his father's company. His father made him vice president and paid him accordingly, while others did the actual work.

to know how to hire people who do know.

But Trump would never admit he doesn't know the basics, and would never hire anyone who knows more about the business of running the place that he does.

He wouldn't listen to someone like that anyway.

The last time he had experienced people in place who knew how government ran and exactly how things should be done. And from what we've seen so far, he isn't making that mistake again.
