The youngest son of a Veteran. My service in the military included being a pallbearer for six veterans I did not know, but loved them just the same. I was assigned CACO Duty 3 times. (Casualty Assistance Calls Officer.). We were the ones who, donned in Dress Uniform, knocked on the door of a family member(s) to tell them that a loved one in the military was deceased. That’s my two cents worth on the subject matter.

I made my at-least-weekly visit to the cemetery today, always check on my Dad's perpetual light (candle) and his flag. The cemetery adds and removes flags regularly, depending on the "holiday," but I've brought my own and nobody's touched it since.

Four miles from us. The groundskeepers do an incredible job keeping the grounds mowed and neat. My FIL sustained serious injuries in WWII but came home, I selfishly thank God for that. My wife and her siblings keep their grave as neat as can be. Their grave is surrounded by other family members. I’m sometimes disappointed when I go out there alone because there is nothing for me to do relative to maintenance. I think you and I are pretty special My Friend. Taking care of our loved ones. Dare I say Patriots.
