How CNN, ADL & Others Amplified Smear Against Rep. Rashida Tlaib for Criticizing Campus Prosecutions

We look at the smear campaign faced by the only Palestinian American in Congress and a vocal critic of Israel, Democratic Congressmember Rashida Tlaib, after she defended the rights of student protesters. Tlaib recently criticized Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel over charges Nessel filed against 11 mostly students and alumni who were involved in a pro-Palestine encampment at the University of Michigan. Nessel then accused Tlaib of antisemitism despite the congressmember never mentioning Nessel's religion. Key media figures like CNN's Jake Tapper have parroted the claim that Tlaib said Nessel is biased because she is Jewish, despite the original article's author fact-checking the narrative. "This is not at all what happened. She's talking about an anti-Palestinian bias," says Steve Neavling, an investigative reporter who first published Tlaib's comments in the Detroit Metro Times_. "It was a very unusual, surreal experience for me as a journalist to see so many lies being peddled about an interview that I witnessed." We also speak with Prem Thakker, a political correspondent for _Zeteo News who has documented the smear campaign, about his efforts to get an update on the U.S. investigation into the killing of 6-year-old Hind Rajab in Gaza. "I have not gotten an answer. It's been over 240 days."

also a Semitic people. The fact that the word "antisemitic" is used only to defend against anti-Jewish bias is itself antisemitic and Islamophobic. It amazes me how oblivious the DU community is to Islamophobia. You can cheer on a blatant genocide and it's considered acceptable opinion, but if you expose what's happening in Gaza or the West Bank people start screaming like it's Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

Democracy Now calls it like it is whether it be popular or not.

With the threat of fascism facing our nation and probably Israel as well, democracy is needed now more than ever.

* then their message would be nonstop anti-GOP and continually calling out Republican lies and deception. Instead, they have shown themselves to be anti-Democratic party and a supporter/defender of antisemitism. The fact that they cannot see or respond to the actual "threat to democracy" and the actual "threat of fascism facing our nation" reveals much about how their propaganda machine works. It's easy to see who benefits.

They criticize both *rump, and the Republican Party while informing their viewers what's going on here in the U.S. and around the world but unlike the corporate media, Democracy Now; doesn't focus on polls and the horse race all day. That myopic horse race focus is what "normalizes" *rump's fascist behavior

I can get more reality information from Democracy Now in one hour than I can keeping the T.V. tuned to CNN and MSNBC all day long and I do that as well.

Democracy Now doesn't have corporate paid pundits telling their viewers what and how to think about reality between saturations of commercials selling shit. Democracy Now primarily interviews actual experts in their fields allowing them to give in depth testimony on the critical issues of the day. Their guests do the vast majority of the speaking and their viewers do more critical thinking as a result.

Everyone knows it. Everyone can see it. Denying it won't change it. Splitting hairs won't change reality. Ignoring Trump and the GOP is what "normalizes" them. Shitting on Democrats day-in and day-out only divides and weakens support for the party. It suppresses voter participation. That benefits the GOP and Russia. Don't piss on my shoe and try to tell me it's raining. I'm smarter than you
are giving me credit for.

I prefer the truth about reality whether it hurts or not than hiding behind a wall or being dumbed down by inane corporate/oligarch propaganda.

I'm sure that you're smart, that's not in question.

Peace to you.

It's very disturbing whenever I see antisemitism being celebrated, or defended, or excused. I do not understand why an org like "Democracy Now!" with the obvious and hostile anti-Democratic party rhetoric, and their less-than-subtle antisemitic agenda are allowed to have their message of hate amplified here. It seems incongruous to me.
