(26,199 posts)I do think trump's evil and demeaning rhetoric will be worse as we come closer to the election. With enthusiasm for the Harris/Walz ticket increasing, he has limited options other than to ramp up racist/bigoted fears of his base and the undecided voters.

It is voter quality that is elevating these bad candidates. If the bad candidates werent finding support, their pursuits would wither away. Yet time and time again, the GOP primaries are advancing the clowns, conspiracy nuts and racists.
Unfortunately, it is a worsening and self fulfilling problem. As the candidates get worse, reasonable people leave the GOP and only the most radical are left behind to choose ever more extreme candidates.
Frankly it wouldnt matter if those leaving the party actually fully rejected those candidates. Instead they just complain about candidate quality and vote for them anyway in the general. In many ways, I actually blame them more than the crazies because they are purposely overriding their principles to vote for people that they know to be unacceptable.
Of course all of this goes back to the right wing media who are driving the bad behavior and demonizing the better candidates in a way to make people think these bad candidates are still better than the devil incarnate democrats.
