CFPB & FTC leading 'All-of-Government' effort to fight corporate abuses - Velshi - MSNBC

The Biden-Harris administration is focusing on corporate price gouging as part of a broader effort to assist American families struggling with high living costs. Recently, a Kroger senior executive admitted during its antitrust trial that the grocer had raised prices on essential items beyond what inflation justified.

Democratic nominee Kamala Harris has pledged to enact a federal ban on price gouging within her first 100 days in office. Meanwhile, the Federal Trade Commission and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau are targeting several industries for abusive practices, says CFPB Director Rohit Chopra. Chopra told guest host Melissa Murray that the administration’s “all-of-government” approach is aimed at combating “Wall Street abuses,” noting that any pushback is mainly coming from “lobbyists and their lawyers.” - Aired on 09/08/2024.
