Arab American voters could significantly impact the 2024 presidential election, particularly in Michigan, home to the largest Arab community in the United States. Many of these voters, incensed at U.S. support for the Israeli war on Gaza, have mobilized over the past year to pressure the Biden administration to change policy, including by casting hundreds of thousands of ballots for "uncommitted" in Democratic primary elections to signal their demand for policy changes. We speak with Osama Siblani, founder and publisher of _The Arab American News_, who has had several meetings with senior figures from the White House and the Democratic presidential campaign. Despite all those meetings, "nothing has happened" except "more killing," Siblani says. "Something has to be done to stop Benjamin Netanyahu's appetite for killing."

(6,340 posts)Why isn't considered a legitimate news source?
The charter of Hamas calls for the killing of all Jews. After October 7 there was either silence, justification, or outright support for the largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust from the Arab-American community.
I am a proud Jewish American. I marched against the Muslim ban because I thought it was a disgusting act of discrimination and a direct violation of the 1st amendment to the US Constitution. I marched for Eric Gardner, Michael Brown, Sandra Bland, George Flyod, and many others because Black Lives Matter.
On October 7th the people I marched with celebrated Jews being murdered and college campuses all over America became hell for Jewish students
So I would say before any change of policy on Gaza occurs there needs a condemnation of Hamas and Antisemitism from the leaders of the Arab American community.

(4,482 posts)* so why is it allowed? It seems odd that something like that seems to be "celebrated" here. It's so extreme and fringe... so it makes me wonder how many first time visitors see that crap and leave? It's certainly not a very welcoming sign for ordinary, rank-and-file, loyal Democrats.

(10,450 posts)interested in working with Harris/Waltz on any sort of realistic approach to the IP problem as far as I can see. Reminds me a lot of how the Palestinian leadership has alienated every Sunni Arab state in the middle east and now those Arab states are normalizing relations with Israel. Some real first rate leadership there.
