'Racist tropes' block Americans from seeing full poverty picture: Rev. William Barber III - Velshi - MSNBC

The racist myth around Black poverty is as old as America. Republican candidates have been exploiting it for decades, but Donald Trump has been saying the quiet parts out loud on the campaign trail, casually painting an entire portion of the electorate – low wage workers – as an ugly stereotype.

Co-Chair of the Poor People’s Campaign, Rev. Dr. William Barber joins Ali Velshi to explain why there is strength in numbers. “The largest swing vote with the most potential is 30 million voters. 7 million of poor, low wage voters voted last time, but 30 million didn't. That's the largest potential swing vote in the country that could fundamentally transform who gets elected and the kinds of policies that are implemented after the elections.” - Aired on 08/18/2024.
