'Should make Republicans awfully nervous': What new poll numbers signal for Trump - Velshi - MSNBC

New polling from The New York Times and Siena College show Kamala Harris making significant gains in Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina, important swing states that seemed to be under Trump’s grip just a few weeks ago. The MaddowBlog’s Steve Benen discusses why these numbers should make Republicans nervous and the reasons Trump’s campaign appears to be flailing.

They also discuss Benen’s new book, “Ministry of Truth,” which explores GOP attempts to rewrite the stories of the recent past and the consequences it’s having on democracy. “They’re doing this on purpose in a way that destabilizes democracy and makes the political system itself unable to function because people aren’t in a position to separate fact from fiction,” Benen warns. - Aired on 08/17/2024.

1. The news to date is that the race is close

Imagine how serene the good guys would be if there were no electoral college.

We elect Senators and Representatives the old fashioned way, one person one vote. Except slave owners didn’t like that way for electing presidents. So we continue to do what slave owners and republicans want us to do over and over again. Why does insanity come to mind while I hunt and peck?

3. It makes no sense that the race could possibly be close the more TFG goes off the rails with Hannibal Lecter and sharks

Even though he's been instructed to discuss "policies," but how can he when he has none - except regaining power and staying out of jail??

And the Electoral College has been outmoded for over a century, but Republicans will never let it go when they know they can't count on the popular vote - especially with a mentally challenged convicted felon as a candidate.

Fact check me but Dems have won 7 of the last 8 popular votes for president. Starting in 92
CLINTON, CLINTON, GORE, bush. OBAMA, OBAMA, CLINTON, BIDEN.

Gosh, now I see the bad guys logic. Looking forward to trump losing the popular vote for the third time. Unprecedented. BUT I HOPE HE DOESN’T GET “ELECTED.” How sad I have to state that.

6. It makes no sense that in a democracy that the only way that Republicans can win is by disenfranchising the majority

And GD and GDP were changed for DUers to express their feelings - one was for those who needed to express their anger and the other was for those who were upset and needed sympathy - I chose the latter, I felt physically sick for over a week.

I said John Kerry was a decent human being. He IS a decent human being. 80 years old. And a shipmate of mine forever regardless of whether we served together.

So they go with the lies, since that's all he has to offer - and the deluded believe him.
