As Americans become increasingly aware of the likelihood that Republicans will try to subvert a potential 2024 election loss by Donald Trump with a plan to hijack the election administration apparatus and prevent (or just make a mess of) the election certification process, more people are wondering how to stop such a scheme from happening.
Noah Bookbinder, president of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, talks with Rachel Maddow about a new expert report that outlines strategies for combating efforts to interfere with the certification of the vote. - Aired on 08/12/2024.

(37,298 posts)Is there any more to it?
Essentially, it seems that this is against the law and the trump electors will be warned of this in advance.
Am I missing anything?

(217,663 posts)Maybe they didn't want to make this segment too long, but given that Rachel is one of the most popular hosts, they'd realize that viewers tune in to hear from her.

(37,298 posts)Been educating her viewing audience about this for a while now. I will watch the entire show tomorrow, since I automatically have it recorded.
Will also do a search and if I find anything relevant, will post back.

Was the clip cut short because it was all MSNBC was willing to give us free?

(217,663 posts)Guess they thought the introduction/her report was enough? I'm guessing that they went to commercial after that.

(31,658 posts)otherwise there's no reason for us to subscribe.
It's why we only get a little bit of Real Time with Bill Maher. Makes sense. I don't subscribe to HBO if I know I can view the bootleg versions.

(217,663 posts)Like Andrew Weissmann, Laurence Tribe or Timothy Snyder. As for Bill Maher, who I've posted for years, now I include the best "bootleg" version, but these days there are fewer to choose from.

(37,298 posts)I watched the whole 2-hour show while I was working this morning and found a few minutes to take notes at the very end, which is when Noah was interviewed. This is not an exact word for word, just an approximate, which will help people who read this thread and don't have capability to watch the re-run.
The part below is what I think we missed. It's just information about them putting a link to Noah's document at Rachel's website. I have to wonder if they cut that off because they needed time to get the document and didn't want to be bothered with inquiries, etc., up until the time they got the link posted.

R: looks like Republicans are test driving an effort to prevent the election from being official.
N: yes, it's going to happen. Seen it in multiple states. Doing as run thru as the one for this fall.
Almost without question that this will happen and it will be more systematic.
It is clearly illegal in all states and steps can be taken to halt it.
R: you state that electors need to be warned in advance they are treading into illegal territory.
N: They have already been warned, such as in MI where election officials have been very clear. The law provides for legitimate ways to challenge an election. In MI they have been told they can't do this and if you do there will be consequences. Could deter. It puts them on notice. I would like to see this happen in all of these states.
R: Haven't seen it in every state where it has been tried. Seems like there are different tactics.
In some cases you can have a board. In other places a local official.
It seems like one thing that could be done is inform them (as in MI).
N: This is why we put out this document: to warn officials what the law is and what we can do. In GA, though, they are going the other direction.

R: Not having this would be a very bad thing.
Thank you for bringing this info together. We will link to it at our site.
