Nixon lived and died in Park Ridge, NJ.

When he died, his visitation and service was held at Vander Plaat's Funeral Home in nearby Wyckoff. The announcement was discreet. Almost secret. Much different five days later at the state funeral held at the Nixon Library in California.

Trivia: Nixon's state funeral is unique among recent presidential state funerals in that, in accordance with his own wishes, none of the elements of the state ceremonies occurred in the nation's capital.

And I remember seeing the funeral on TV at work, IIRC President Clinton spoke.

both in retrospect and if proposed today.

But, he wanted power and surrounded himself with those who would gladly engage in corruption to gain/hold it.

And I have to agree. I remember hearing, after the fact, that he was concerned about the environment and that he had a national health plan. In other words, he was nothing like the Republicans of today in that he was concerned about the future of the planet and he was interested in helping the people. Too bad that he also wanted power and engaged in corruption, but not to extent that Republicans do today. And one big difference was that his downfall came when his fellow Republicans turned against him - which is totally the opposite of what we see in the Republican party today. Republicans today are willing to support a convicted felon who stole classified documents, "loves" brutal dictators and attempted to overthrow he government. Nixon didn't even come close to what we're dealing with today.
