So sad. It breaks my heart to hear her mom. I straddle both sides. I work in mental health and mother of an adult child living with Bipolar disorder.

I am reluctant to call 911 myself when my son has a crisis. I don’t suggest anyone do what I do. But when he’s ill, I find a way to take him to the hospital myself. It’s never easy.
Luckily, in GA, we have a crisis line that can send mental health professionals if needed. I tell patients to call the crisis line first. Problem is. There are not enough and you can wait hours for them to get there. Not suitable in a true emergency.
It is my hope that there will be a lot more well staffed mental health crisis response teams, sooner rather than later.

As mental health professionals, you do crisis planning or a safety plan with patients. You give them instructions about what to do in a crisis. It’s heartbreaking, that instead of help, you get death.
