Global computer outage is one of the biggest in history - NBC News

A flawed software security update knocked out computer operations throughout the world, affecting airlines, hospitals, 911 systems, broadcasters, and other businesses. It was one of the biggest computer outages in history, with tens of millions of people affected. My flight was repeatedly delayed. I’ll make my connection, but not by much.

O’Hare was a nightmare. The screens listing gates were blank, and the gate for my flight changed as frequently as the departure time.

They said that it affected airlines the most - and all over the world. Wishing you the best of luck and that they've finally gotten this straightened out and that you make your flight in time.

6. All I suffered was a few hours of aggravation at the airport.

Overall, not much of a cost to me in the long run. And it looks like I'll get to my destination (Addis Ababa), albeit at the end of a 13-hour flight.

(In fact, the most depressing part of it has been the amount of MAGA shit for sale at Dulles.)

My wife and daughter also flew yesterday, but to a different (and much closer) destination. They lost a few hours with my wife's family, but managed to get where they were going.

This sort of thing shouldn't actually be, like, a thing. There should be some sort of backup system that can be used in cases like this. I'm amazed airlines and hospitals didn't already have them in place - software upgrades are often bumpy affairs.

Yesterday I posted my grandson’s Texas dmv appointment was canceled. My granddaughter’s friend was stuck overseas. But later learned where my daughter works at was also affected.
