Clicking MY STUFF clears all notifications of new stuff

This discussion thread was locked by EarlG (a host of the DU4 Bug Reports forum).

"New" badge appears on "MY STUFF" button.
Clicking the button reveals "INBOX" with a number of unread DU mail and "POSTS" with a number of new replies.
Clicking either INBOX or POSTS clears both.

Expected: Clearing of notification of only the button clicked, with the other notification remaining until that button has been clicked.

Just to clarify, you're using the badge option in Account Settings?

So you get a badge appearing on MY STUFF, then you click the button and you a see a badge on both INBOX and POSTS. Then you click INBOX, but when you come back to the MY STUFF menu, POSTS no longer has a badge -- or any other indication that there are still unread messages (is it solid yellow?)

We'll be looking into this one.

Each button is solid yellow only if and when the mouse pointer passes over.

We're aware that the My Stuff notifications are a bit buggy at the moment, but we should be able to get it straightened out.

I was able to recreate this directly just now -- I received a new mail message and had new replies at the same time.

The My Stuff button displayed the badge. When I clicked on it to open the menu, the Inbox and Posts buttons both had a badge.

I clicked on Inbox and went to that page. The badge was then removed from the My Stuff button (this is correct).

I then clicked the My Stuff button again and opened the menu. This time, the Inbox button did not have the badge applied, but had a blue background (because I had visited the Inbox page) and showed that I had one unread mail message (this is correct).

In addition, the Posts button did not have the badge applied, but was a solid yellow color to indicate that I had not yet visited the Posts page. It looked like this:

That's what is currently supposed to happen. But you're saying that if you perform the same actions as I did above, Posts and Inbox are both showing up with a blue background.

Can you tell me what device/browser are you are using? Thanks.

It is possible "POSTS" was solid without mouseover and I didn't notice.

Device: PC with an old Celeron, running Debian Linux
Browser: Firefox 102.9.0esr (Extended Support Release)

On a brand new notification you get the badge (or the glow, or whatever you have that set as). As soon as you click a button with the badge, on the next page load the badge goes away.

So if the My Stuff button shows the badge, you know there's something brand new there. As soon as you click on the My Stuff badge, on the next page load the badge will be gone.

Inside the My Stuff menu, similar logic applies. If you click open the My Stuff menu and there are brand new items in Subscriptions, Inbox, or Posts, those buttons will display the badge, like this:

The difference is that if you leave the menu without visiting those pages, the next time you open the menu again (after a page load) those buttons should be solid yellow instead of displaying the badge. This is to indicate that there is still something at that page which you haven't read yet, but it's no longer brand new.

Here's what it looks like after I clicked on the Subscriptions button from the example above, went to the Subscriptions page, then opened the My Stuff menu again:

You can see that the Subscriptions button has cleared, but the Posts button is now solid yellow to remind me that I haven't looked there yet.

We did it this way so you could easily tell the difference between a brand new notification, and an older notification that you just hadn't looked at yet. Otherwise (especially with the default glow setting) the buttons would just be glowing all the time and it would be confusing.

Anyway.... if you're not sure, perhaps you could keep an eye out for this happening again and let me know if/when you can confirm that something definitely seems to be amiss.

MY STUFF is showing "NEW" right now. Suspecting it was a post here, I just reloaded this page without checking MY STUFF.

If you have time to send a message, that will recreate the situation and I can then check to confirm one or the other stays yellow if not clicked.

It sounds like everything seems to be working as it should? If so I'll lock this one as resolved...
