1. Posts don't get removed from the Feed

When you hit the "Mark as read" button a yellow bar will appear at the top of the page which says "Notifications below this line have been read". New notifications will appear above that bar, pushing it down the page. So the idea is that the next time you come to the page you, you read down until you get to the yellow bar. Then click "Mark as read" to reset it.

When you X out a notification in the left sidebar, that just clears it from the sidebar, it doesn't delete the item from the Feed. (This is actually quite useful, I've mistakenly X-ed out a notification from the sidebar without properly reading it, then just gone to the Feed and retrieved it.)
